Seedling plants transplanted into 150 cm3 planter pots filled with commercial seed raising medium once radicle emerged. Plants raised in a shadehouse and transplanted into a fully prepared (cultivated and fertilised (19 kg/ha P, 22 kg/ha S, 50 kg/ha K)) seedbed (Krasnozem). Nitrogen fertiliser applied within one month of transplanting (~50 kg N/ha). Target population of 50 plants per accession. Insects controlled using registered insecticides. Irrigated to supplement rainfall. Seeds harvested by hand-picking or collecting mature seeds in mesh bags placed around grouped seedheads after anthesis.
