Developed by R. Love, University of California, California, United States. Crop Science Registration Identifier: CV-10 Crop: OTHER GRASSES. Date issued: 01-Jul-1963. Reference: R. Merton Love. 1963. Crop Sci 3(4):367. Comment: CV-10. Panicle much contracted or compact with shorter panicle branches than the open panicle of typical veldt. Seeds large, heavy, dark brown in color, and do not readily shatter at maturity. Plant shorter than typical veldt. Plant habit and growth form about as variable as typical veldt. Used in wildlands to help prevent soil erosion and grazed by domestic animals and big game. Pedigree: Nine-clone synthetic derived by selection from a nonshattering strain of perennial veldtgrass received from University of Western Australia in 1950.
