Narrative
Plants erect, uniform, resistent to winter killing drought and disease, adapted to western Canada. Developed by Kirk, L., University of Saskatchewan, Canada. Comment: the name was in print in 1921 and could be older. Donated Mar-1960 from USDA, ARS, NCRPIS, Iowa, United States of America. Pedigree: Selected directly from seed that originated in northern Siberia, but was supplied by N.E. Hansen of South Dakota. Mass selection was used. Bulked progenies of a number of winter-hardy plants of similar type that survived the introduction nursery in 1918. Released: 1923
