Narrative
An excellent bee plant that is also salt-tolerant. It is coumarin free. The winter hardiness and maturity are similar to the variety Arctic. Adapted to western Canada. Developed 1957 from Saskatchewan, Canada. Pedigree: The coumarin-deficient gene was obtained in a few seeds received from W.K. Smith, University of Wisconsin, in 1946. Dr. Smith obtained his material from an interspecific cross between M.albus and M.dentatus, backcrossed to M.albus. At Saskatoon the were backcrossed to selected M.albus five times, then crossed with the varieties Arctic and Pioneer. Citation: J.E.R. Greenshields. 1958. Note on cumino sweet clover.
