very low maintenance grows on shalloe soil drought and heat tolerant Weed control : Wallaby grass seedlings are not strong competitors and will grow better without weeds present. It is important to reduce the number of weeds and weed seeds from the seedbed before sowing. For broad acre planting, we recommend a program of weed control for a period of twelve months or more prior to sowing, during which time weeds are eliminated as they appear. Sowing depth: Sow Wallaby grass seeds approximately 5 mm deep and no deeper than 10 mm below the soil surface. Seed sown on the surface will dry out and is less likely to germinate. Sowing time: Wallaby grass is best sown from autumn to spring as long as moisture is available. Germination times are from 7 to 10 days in the warmer months and can be as long as 8 to 10 weeks in winter. Watering : Seeds should be kept moist, but not waterlogged, in the ground for at least 3 weeks after sowing. Fertiliser Fertiliser should not be used when sowing, nor for the first three months after germination, if at all. Fertiliser, if applied earlier, will aid weed growth more than Wallaby grass growth. Seedlings Wallaby grass seedlings are small and thin. They are identified by the presence of hairs at the junction of the leaf and stem.
