Narrative
A rhizomatous type of lucerne that grows in the semiarid regions of Gansu province. It is highly resistant to drought, cold weather and grazing. The root system is very strong with no clear primary/tap roots. The rhizomes bear buds that can grow to new plants. Strong branching and regrowth capacity. Experiments have shown that the cultivar can produce 24 t DM/ha with on average 20% of CP, 39% of crude fiber and 49% of leaves to stems. The plant can grow up to 70-90 cm high. Originally sourced from Professor Shangli Shi, Dean of the College of Grassland Science, Gansu Agricultural University (GAU), China.
