Narrative
Jemalong 2HA is quite different to Jemalong. It can produce large numbers of plants from culture and allowed the genetic engineering of this species by Ray Rose in 1992. Jemalong has become the main molecular genetic model for nitrogen fixation and to a lesser extent plant microbe interactions. There are two very large (multi million dollar programs) at the Noble Foundation in Oklahoma and at Texas A and M university. There have been futher developments in transformation but some smaller labs may still want to use Jemalong 2HA.
